Waitā, daughter of Matariki, is the kaitiaki of all kaimoana gathered from Tangaroa. Waitā travels with her mother and sisters to Papatūānuku to spend the month preparing her great grandmother for the new Māori year. This special kete celebrates the beauty, important work and skills of Waitā who has set over the Western Horizon. The shell detail symbolises Waitā and her significant role during Matariki.
