Madison Redman/Kapowai is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Titirangi, Tāmaki Makaurau. Her practice is grounded in traditional Māori art forms. She draws inspiration from patterns found in traditional carving, painting, kōwhaiwhai, and tukutuku/tāniko.
"Through multidisciplinary mahi toi, I explore themes around Ātua Māori, pūrākau, and Māori cosmologies through the interwoven mediums of painting, raranga, and tā moko. I reinterpret this knowledge with a contemporary approach, paying tribute to our Tūpuna by exploring traditional forms, mediums and stories. My goal is to honour them, the stories and knowledge they have passed down to us."
