This artwork is based on the Canoe of Rangi. Each year during the month of June, the appearance of a crimson mist is seen on the eastern horizon called The Net of Taramainuku, that collects the souls of the dead abd taken to the threshold of Matariki. The two Shags at each end are the prow and stern of the canoe.
