Charlene Fraser

Nō Ngāti Tukorehe, Ngāti Rangitihi, me Te Āti Haunui a Pāparangi a Charlene.

Charlene has loved weaving for many years. She has a background in tutoring Raranga. A fine kete whakairo and kete whiri weaver, her work stands out with signature finishes and weaving features unique in her own style of innovation.
One of her most recent works is ‘Ka Whaihanga’, a 10-day wānanga she led with Mathew McIntyre-Wilson in Ōtari Bush which culminated in an exhibition in the iconic Futuna Chapel designed by the late John Scott.

Recent exhibitions;
Tiaho Mai, Kiwibank Paraparaumu
Te Ringa Māhorahora, Toi Matarau Gallery Ōtaki

Charlene is a mother of 8 children, and has passed on her special gift for weaving to them. Her daughter Shainey Moreli is also an accomplished weaver, a great testament to the skill and natural talent imparted to her as a child.
Charlene’s love for Raranga shows in the weave of the taonga she creates with great appreciation and gratitude to the materials available and those her pieces are intended for.
