Torisse Laulu

Torisse Laulu (Afega, Lefaga, Sala’ilua, and Falealili) has created a card game that “uses Pasifika wisdom (talanoa) to foster empathy and connection through sharing stories, reweaving people back to each other”.

It is a fantastic tool for connection by generating deep and mindful discussions around the human experience. Earlier in the year, Torisse hosted a Talanoa session during the Māoriland Film Festival (pictured above), which activated a space of laughter and interconnectedness.

In each pack, there are 180 tested questions, organized into 5 depth levels ranging from surface to deep, followed by unpredictable wild cards. Every prompt has been carefully researched to foster connection and self-reflection. With sometimes confronting questions about the Indigenous and POC experience, this card game inevitably generates a deeper understanding across all people of all cultural backgrounds.

“In a world that is increasingly fractured and disconnected from each other, Lalaga provides a place and tool to reweave people to each other and to remind us of our greater sense of collective purpose”.
