A Voice for the Silenced

Harry Walker has dedicated his life to social work - as a former Māori Welfare Officer, National Office Policy Advisor, Cultural Report Writer, and Victoria University lecturer. 'A Voice for the Silenced: Stories from inside and outside the cells of Aotearoa/New Zealand' is a taumata kōrero, a paepae, to those who have been marginalised and oppressed. It aims to share the kōrero, the stories, experiences, and perspectives of people silenced by societal and systemic injustices. These narratives are from individuals and their families who have faced colonial heritage, racism, oppression, and the punitive realities of incarceration. These vignettes seek to amplify their voices, highlighting their struggles, resilience, and the ongoing and pernicious effects of trauma and alienation.
