This series explores the interconnected realms of being, celestial, terrestrial, and the space that binds them.'Kauae Runga', 'Kauae Raro', and 'Ata' trace a movement between worlds, guided by light as both metaphor and mauri. Each work acknowledges the relationships between wairua, whenua, and memory, revealing how insight and renewal flow continuously through these spaces.
Through these forms I consider how knowledge descends, how it is grounded, and how reflection bridges the two. The works are in dialogue with one another, showing that transformation does not occur in isolation but through connection between what is above, below, and within.
"My toi Māori goals are to strengthen the connection between mātauranga Māori and contemporary visual language, to innovate within traditional forms so they continue to evolve across new materials and contexts, and to bring Māori art into everyday life. I aim to create works that engage communities through shared symbolism, whakapapa, and storytelling, encouraging reflection, pride, and reconnection with cultural identity in both physical and digital spaces."
