Jacqui Broughton
Jacqui Broughton (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, Muaūpoko), draws inspiration from ngā Atua Wāhine, Te Taiao, Te Whare Pora and the Maramataka.
Her pieces are steeped in symbolism and mātauranga surrounding these themes and are depicted upon up-cycled wooden pieces sourced from second-hand shops. Jacqui repurposes native rākau from Aotearoa and other whenua to create these beautifully hand-drawn, painted, and etched works of art.
“Decolonisation and reclamation through toi that connects, preserves and unapologetically protects our visual reo that reaffirms our status as tangata whenuā.”
Jacqui is a Whanganui-based artist, working alongside Te Awa Tupua. She is a charismatic wahine who ardently holds creative spaces for wāhine and their whānau through her arts practice.
