Taryn Te Uira Beri
Taryn Beri (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Te Āti Awa, Kāi Tahu) is a travelling artist who utilises her artistic talents to share a new perspective on her return to A.R.T (The ART Confederation), after living overseas. The pieces above are inspired by passages from the bible, an expression of how she finds healing through her arts practice and connection to her faith.
The paintings pictured above are named ‘With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation’ (left), a scripture from the bible (12:3), and ‘New Beginnings’ (right). In many of Taryn’s pieces, you will notice she has an affinity with Pūhoro and Peha, patterns that can be observed in many of her paintings, informed by her practice as a tāmoko artist.
As a wahine in the pursuit of healing, Taryn enjoys holding mana-enhancing spaces for other wāhine to feel empowered and practice self-healing through creative outlets,
“Themes of motherhood, conception, creation, birth, ancestral memory, transformation, personal growth, DNA information and the continuum of whakapapa (genealogy) from ancestors to offspring also feature in many of her art works.”
