Matriarchland Series – Original Paintings

Of the Diné and Hopi heritage, Venaya is an Indigenous cultural educator and a multi-disciplinary artist. She paints imagery based on Southwest women’s traditions—focusing on garments, jewellery, and adornments for hair. Venaya also creates distinct earrings and necklace medallions utilising natural materials rooted in her Hopi culture. She holds a M.A. degree in Education/Indian Education from the University of New Mexico and is an alumnus of Fort Lewis College and the Institute of American Indian Arts.
