Puritia is a tool to protect our stories, uphold Indigenous intellectual and cultural rights, and empower communities to create, share, and retain sovereignty over their narratives.
“Every part of the dandelion is useful – roots, leaves, flower… Dandelion seeds can be carried by the wind for large distances from their place of origin. They can grow in the harshest of conditions.” Indigenous peoples around the world have stories about dandelion – tahetoka.
This resilience, usefulness, and ability to carry knowledge across distance is at the heart of Puritia, a kaupapa Māori ecosystem created by Māoriland to support Māori and Indigenous filmmakers and digital creatives.
The Puritia Dandelion Hat features the iconic dandelion symbol of this kaupapa – representing how stories, like seeds, can travel far while remaining connected to their source.
