Description: First of a series of Atua Tāne (Māori Gods) Māori anime style.
Artist Statement: Known mostly as God of the four winds, Tāwhirimātea is the God of weather cycles and patterns. His strength and power is most evident in marangai and āwha (storms) that unleash on the earth. After his parents; Ranginui (Sky father) and Papatūānuku (Earth mother) were separated by his brother Tāne Māhuta, Tāwhirimātea waged war with all his siblings as the only child that didn’t want his parents to be separated. Out of frustration and anger he ripped his own eyes out and threw them to his Dad to wear as a cloak of stars becoming the endearing constellation we know as Matariki.
An ideal gift for children but suitable for people of all ages.
