Pera Barrett
Born and raised in the playgrounds of Ōtaki’s rivers, hills, and beach, Pera comes from a whānau deeply embedded within the history of Ōtaki and Kāpiti Island. His whānau have been upholding their family legacy in being kaitiaki for Kapiti Island since the early 1800s.
As a writer, rapper, father, husband, and founder of ‘Shoebox Christmas, ‘ Pera has a vast array of ventures alongside his creative pursuits. After studying whakairo (carving) at Te Wānanga o Raukawa, Pera has continued to lean into another form of storytelling trhough his taonga.
